when we look at pictures of western weddings, funerals
and formal gatherings
past and present
look and observe closely
men and women's fashion.
Men's formal wear has not evolved that much
in the past couple of centuries.
There is only slight variations
but it is basically the same formula of suits and ties.
There are subtle variations but it's the same look,
to evoke consistency, dignity, and elegance.
When we look at the same picture of these formal gatherings
without looking at a clock,
one can tell which time period the event happened
just by looking at the woman in the picture.
The woman's outfit is not consistent over the years
it tells the changes of seasons.
It's woman's bright colorful flowery gowns that tell us spring is coming
It's a woman's long smooth sleeveless dress that
tell us it is warm and sun is out
It's the woman's outfit that tell us that it is winter
It's a woman's fashion that tell us it is the rainy season
The dresses, gowns and pantsuits come in various colors and textures
from earth hues to sweet, pretty pastels,
bright primary colors to glistening jewel tones
women's fashion can range from frivolous or rebellious
elegant to mysterious.
men's wear did not need to change
their outfit worked for them for centuries
