Dancing in the Street

I see women in elaborate gowns

Men in colorful native garbs

Dancing in the street to the beat of the drums

For hours, they dance

Under the scorching heat of the sun

They twirl

They stomp

They chant

To the rhythm of the music

Pausing only to recharge

Their tired weary feet

But as long as the women

in bejeweled gowns

With a wooden sculpture in their hands

Hear the beat

They will dance to the music
